Project of Village Gostuša Revitalisation Winner of European Heritage Stories 2019 Recognition

03/09/2019

After the Grand Prize of Europa Nostra in 2016, the project of village Gostuša revitalisation has been awarded again, this time as one of the 10 projects which received the award of European Heritage Stories.

The initiative European Heritage Stories was started last year withing the marking of European Year of Cultural Heritage. The idea is that apart from European visibility of local cultural heritage, financial support should also be awarded.

Gostuša is a village near Pirot which is prominent due to its architecture, because in building the houses no binding material was used, as instead houses were composed by laying of stone and wood only. The focus of the project is on revival and development of communities and environments preserving natural and cultural heritage.

The study of protection of village Gostuša near Pirot received in 2016 an award by the European Commission and the pan-European network of civil society organisations in the field of heritage “Europa Nostra”.
