The workshop has the aim to transfer knowledge and skills in the field of cultural heritage, education and application of digital technologies in presentation and interpretation of cultural heritage. Skills and knowledge are related to the development of audience and multifunctional content representing the backbone of contemporary approaches to education.
Introductory segment of the workshop: Heritage on an empty stomach and out in the open
The introductory part of the workshop is dedicated to the relationship between education and cultural heritage and the opening of the central topic through illustrated examples of application of digital tools in the promotion of heritage and studying about heritage and through heritage.
Practical segment of the workshop: heritage with a meal and on the other side of interface?
The second part of the workshop is related to planning and development of programme of a promotion/educational programme about a selected cultural good based on a hybrid approach, i.e. the use of digital tools for communication and interpretation of heritage in combination with direct experience.
Discussion segment of the workshop: Balanced consumption of heritage for the growing generation
The third part of the workshop turns into a simulation of a round table on the topic of applying digital tools in education and promotion of heritage, where participants are displaced from their professional profiles and take over roles, and in that the perspective of other participants in the processes of cultural heritage and education.
Who is it for?
The workshop is intended for representatives of cultural organisations, educational institutions, teachers in elementary schools, educators in the field of cultural heritage, museum educators. The number of participants is limited to 20 people and the list of participants will be published on our website after the application deadline.
What kind of knowledge and skills will participants acquire?
Having completed training, participants will 1) be acquainted with examples of good practices in the application of digital tools for presentation, communication and education in the field of heritage; 2) gain an insight into advantages and disadvantages of specific modalities of learning in the field of heritage; 3) gain experience of teamwork in small groups on planning programmes of promotion of heritage and educational programmes of preservation and utilisation of heritage; 4) gain the skill of recognising potentially useful digital tools in the field of cultural heritage and improve communication skills in the processes of presentation and interpretation of heritage.

Who will lead the workshop?
The workshop will be led by Rade Milić, Aleksandra Nikolić and Jovana Mijatović, who together make a team dealing with promoting innovative approaches and digital tools in contemporary education. Within the Urban Development Centre, they work on modernising didactic tools with the aid of digital technologies and in this way influence the changes in existing practices in the school programme, approximating various topics in culture to generations of students growing up in a digital environment. Rade Milić is an archaeologist, and he is currently engaged as the President of the Management Board of Urban Development Centre and coordinator of numerous domestic and international projects promoting cultural heritage. Main aims of the centre are promoting urban life and improving culture, art and education in city environments, taking care of cultural-historical monuments testifying about the development of Belgrade.
Aleksandra Nikolić is cooperating with the Urban Development Centre as the national coordinator of the project Heritage Hubs in Serbia. As the senior curator educator of the Central Institute of Conservation, she is working on raising competencies in the field of conservation and realisation of educational programmes and sensitising the public to the importance of cultural heritage. She was one of realisers of education within master studies in preventive conservation on the multidisciplinary studies of the University of Belgrade and the programme of informal training for museums in Serbia and the region. She was engaged as a consultant and a member of expert teams in the years long international programmes of ICCROM (The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) − Archaeological Conservation for Southeast Europe, Sharing Conservation Decisions and RE-ORG, and she is also cooperating with ICCROM on the development and realisation of the programme International Summer School on Communication and Teaching Skills in Conservation and Science, especially dealing with application of hybrid learning in conservation. As a researcher, Aleksandra is dealing with examining the role of artefacts in cultural transmission and optimising conservation and utilisation of museum collections.
Jovana Mijatović is an archaeologist and educator in the field of cultural heritage and a long time affiliate of the Museum of the City of Belgrade and other preservation institutions realising educational programmes for children, which encourage creativity and strengthen the awareness of values of cultural heritage and the importance of its preservation. On the international level, Jovana participated in numerous programmes of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property – ICCROM, and she is one of consultatns of ICCROM for the programme First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis, in relation to which, in cooperation with the Urban Development Centre, she realised the project B-CARE: Balkan Cultural Aid Response for Emergencies, intended for education of a network of volunteers for protection of cultural heritage in states of emergency in the Balkans. As a part of the organisation Kulturnaut, she is dealing with designing and realisation of creative workshops with the topic of cultural heritage for children attending school.
