Europa Nostra, a civil society organisation dealing with preservation of culture and nature, and the Institute of the European Investment Bank, published the list of 12 most endangered object of cultural heritage today, including the Dečani Monastery, denominated as “Kosovo*”.
The list of the most endangered ones was compiled based on historical importance and cultural value, as well as the urgency inherent in their being endangered. The list of 12 most endangered locations was created by the Advisory Board comprised of experts in history, archaeology, architecture, conservation, project planning and finances.
This year’s list includes:
Achensee Steam Cog Railway, Tyrol, Austria
Modern Theatre, Sofia, Bulgaria
Cemetery Complex of Mirogoj, Zagreb, Croatia
Church of Saint-Denis, Hauts-de-France, France
Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi, Georgia
Green Space System, Cologne, Germany
Five Southern Aegean Islands, Greece
The Giusti Garden, Verona, Italy
The Ca’ Zenobio Palace, Venice, Italy
Dečani Monastery, Kosovo*
Central Post Office in Skopje, Northern Macedonia
San Juan de Socueva Chapel and Hermitage, Cantabria, Spain
These landmarks have been shortlisted for the programme “Seven Most Endangered Cultural Monuments of Europe for 2021”, which will be published in March.
Through this programme, initiated in 2013, the European network Europa Nostra is striving to preserve the endangered heritage of Europe, whereas it does not provide direct funding, but instead expert and activist support. For the first time since the initiation of the programme, localities on the list of the “Seven Most endangered Cultural Monuments of Europe 2021”, are eligible to apply for up to 10,000 Euros from the Institute of the European Investment Bank.
