Serbian – Jewish Choral Society (SJCS) has been established in Belgrade in 1876. It carries out various projects building tolerance and remembrance. The idea of cultural diversity and inter confessionalism is well incorporated in its programme and membership origin (multinational). For years SJCS is participating in (state) events, festivals, competitions in the country and abroad, even Carnegie Hall ,1978. Apart from shows in book promotions, exhibition openings, it holds charity and thematic concerts dedicated to inter cultural dialogue, street shows and friendship concert promoting idea music is establishing inter cultural dialogue, diminishing borders between different cultural, religious and national communities.The priority is to preserve and promote Jewish/Israel music in Ladino, Yiddish, Hebrew, also in Old Slavic, Serbian, Croat, English, Latin, German, Spanish, Italian,…while promoting Serbian and world music of all times and epochs. Choir enhances vocal quality through seminars with international conductors in the country and abroad. Special attention is paid to building tolerance and remembrance (Holocaust), which with great success choir realizes, for seven years now, through project “Never To Forget, Holocaust, Never To Happen again –music writes memories“ – combating prejudices, stereotypes, discrimination, racism, antisemitism, Xenophobia.
