The main mission of the Archives of Yugoslavia is protection of archive materials created by the institutions of Yugoslav states from its creation in 1918 until 2006 and its final dissolution. With more than 800 different collections coming from various political, economical and cultural institutions and organizations Archive of Yugoslavia represents central hub for the research of modern and contemporary history not only of Yugoslavia and its successor states but of other states, international movements and world organizations as well. In total Archive of Yugoslavia posses several dozen kilometers of different archive materials.
Equal attention is dedicated to outreach activities performed through exhibitions of archival materials, publishing activities, and hosting conferences and workshops. Exhibitions are most often organized in cooperation with other institutions of culture such as museums and archives as well as with foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations. Besides publishing of Arhiv, Časopis Arhiva Jugoslavije (Archives, Journal of Archives of Yugoslavia) in cooperation with leading academics from Serbia and abroad we regularly publish edited volumes of documents on various topics.
Currently, one of the priorities on our agenda is digitization of various collections. We see digitization not only as a mean of preservation but as tool for introducing of our holdings not only to academic community but general public as well.
